Easter Weekend Events and Activities

uiy

Easter Sunday: The day of pastels, egg rolling, spring events and rabbity propaganda doesn't seem very “cool New York” at first blush, but as with all holidays in the city, it's as entertaining as you make it. You can gawk at the 2015 Easter Parade, seek out the best brunch NYC serves or use this as an excuse for some leisurely day-drinking. Below, a guide to all those options and more.

When is Easter?

Easter is on Sunday, 5 April 2015.

Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival

Yes, Easter Sunday is a holy day, but it's also a festive one, as the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival proves. New Yorkers love to don outlandish costumes, and this yearly march affords the creatively inclined an opportunity to do just that.

So, grab your bonnet and basket, and hop over to these egg'celect celebrations and the annual Easter parade.

Escape to a not-so-secret garden at this two-week floral display, this year entitled "Art in Bloom." The ground level of Macy's Herald Square turns into something from Alice in Wonderland, all is covered in ceiling-to-floor greenery—and after walking through the display you get to the clothes! Visit social.macys.com/flowershow for information on free workshops, including terrarium making and floral design.

Easter Egg Hunt

gh

In past years the Easter Egg Hunt has taken place in Central Park at the Great Hill (106th street on the west side). The events of the day include the famous egg hunt, carnival games, face painting, and egg decorating. Children can take their picture with the Easter Bunny and win prizes.

The Easter Egg Hunt usually takes place on the Saturday before Easter, from 11:00am to 1:00pm and is a free event. The event was not held in 2014, 2013 or 2012.
